Pharmacologist, Head of the Laboratory for Research on Neurodegenerative Disorders of IRCCS ICS Maugeri of Pavia

D. Rossi is the Head of the Laboratory for Research on Neurodegenerative Disorders of IRCCS ICS Maugeri of Pavia, where she conducts research on ALS and other motor neuron diseases. She received her degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Milan. She then completed her post-graduate school in Pharmacology at the same university. During this period, she gained her first research experience by studying the mechanisms that control neurotransmitter homeostasis in neurodegenerative conditions. She later joined the University of Zurich to start her doctoral thesis (awarded in 2001), during which time she investigated the physiopathological role of the prion protein on cellular and animal models. From 1999 to 2002, Daniela worked at the Imperial College School of Medicine at St. Mary’s in London. From 2002 to 2009, she was at the Center of Excellence on Neurodegenerative Diseases of the University of Milan where she developed different research lines in the field of neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on ALS. While at the University of Milan, she received an EMBO Fellowship, the Chiron Young Scientist Award and grants from the Telethon Foundation to support studies on ALS pathogenesis.
