Raquel Manzano

Postdoctoral researcher

Dr. Raquel Manzano graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2006 with a Master in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Zaragoza. In 2011 she completed her PhD in Human Neurosciences. She has developed her career at University of Zaragoza and Pasteur Institute and as a postdoc she has been working for the last 5 years at the University of Oxford (Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics). Her research interests are focussed in two lines: Exploring the contribution of molecular mechanisms in skeletal muscle to aging sarcopenia and neuromuscular disorders with special attention to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and Spinal and Bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA). In this sense, she is particularly interested in muscle stem cell biology, proteostasis and intra/extracellular vesicular pathways. Moreover, based on H2020-MSCA EU funding she is also currently leading a research line in nanomedicine to design novel nanocarriers for gene therapy in neurodegenerative diseases. Her research has been published in more than 30 scientific manuscripts leading to several intellectual property protection developments and currently participates as a teaching assistant in Genetics at the University of Zaragoza.
