The Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group concentrates on the role of motor proteins in pathogenesis of ALS, identification of disease-related gene mutations, electrophysiological and neuroimaging characterization of ALS patients with various clinical phenotypes, protein profiling and deep phenotyping. The group collaborates with several partners from Europe, Japan and US. In the beginning of 2014, a JPND-founded scientific project „Needs in ALS“ concerning factors determining end-of life decisions in patients with ALS was started together with the Medical University of Ulm, Germany, and University of Umea, Sweden.

In 2003, in cooperation with the Department of Neurology in Ulm (Germany), a Warsaw ALS biobank was settled at the Department of Neurology and Department of Biochemistry, Medical University of Warsaw. The bank contains over 500 samples of EBV-immortalized lymphocytes obtained from patients with ALS and mimicking disorders.
