Ana Cristina Calvo

Professor of Genetics

Dr. Ana Cristina Calvo is a chemist that completed her PhD in Molecular Neurosciences in 2003. Her research interests are mainly focused on the identification of prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers of ALS, a disease that she has been investigated during the last 16 years. Dr. Calvo has been involved in the monitoring and characterization of transgenic SOD1G93A mice as well as in traslational studies from this animal model to samples from ALS patients to validate more reliable biomarkers of ALS. Additionally, Dr. Calvo has been also involved in preclinical studies to analyze therapeutic strategies for ALS based on non-viral gene therapy. Dr. Calvo has an h index of 16 (Scopus). She is coauthor of 38 articles indexed in the JCR. She has participated in 21 projects or research contracts, of which 4 have been carried out in collaboration with companies or foundations and 2 of them are European projects. Currently, she is interested in non-coding RNA species in neurodegenerative conditions, as well as the role of intestinal microbial community on regulation of inflammatory processes in ALS. She is the co-inventor of 3 patents licensed to companies, one of them is an American patent. Contact information: accalvo@unizar.es
