ICS Maugeri IRCCS

ICS Maugeri encompasses a network of 19 clinical sites across Italy, 10 of which are recognized as Research Hospitals of National Interest (IRCCS). The network specializes in high-quality rehabilitation for oncological, neurological, and cardiological conditions. The ALS Unit at ICS Maugeri Milano is a renowned multidisciplinary tertiary center with national and international expertise in clinical research, treating around 100 patients with ALS (pALS) per year, including 5-10 new cases each month. Over the past 14 years, the ALS Unit has supported approximately 1,000 pALS. The unit has coordinated multiple research projects and clinical trials. Additionally, it leads the Virtual Institute for ALS, which includes ALS Units from six other ICS Maugeri Institutes across Italy (Lissone, Pavia, Lumezzane, Telese, Mistretta, Bari).

The Milan ALS Unit features:

• A clinical trial center with study coordinators and a research nurse
• LABioN, a lab focused on biomarker research for neurological diseases, equipped with Quanterix SR-X technology for ultra-sensitive protein measurements
• A 10-bed hospital unit dedicated to ALS patients
• An ALS outpatient service
