Alexander Thompson (BMBCh DPhil (Oxon.) MRCP (Lond.)) is Associate Professor within Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and Honorary Consultant Neurologist to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. His medical degree was from the University of Oxford, where he later also completed his DPhil. He is a Medical Research Council and Motor Neurone Disease Association Lady Edith Wolfson Clinician Scientist Fellow. His research is focused on the development and implementation of neurochemical markers of ALS and big data approaches to understanding heterogeneity and presymptomatic changes. His methods include integrated analysis of the CSF protein network using mass spectrometry, analysis of CSF and blood extracellular vesicles, development of pathology-specific biochemical assays, and the analysis of large scale population datasets.
