PD. Dr. Christoph Neuwirth

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Christoph Neuwirth is a board-certified neurologist and holds a habilitation from the University of Zurich. Since 2006, he has been a collaborator and deputy to Prof. Markus Weber at the Muscle Center/ALS Clinic, a kosek-accredited national reference center for rare neuromuscular diseases.

In addition to his direct clinical work in the diagnosis, treatment, and counseling of patients, his research focuses on rare neuromuscular diseases, particularly motor neuron diseases, and the development of potential electrodiagnostic biomarkers to estimate the number of functioning nerve cells in muscles (Motor Unit Number Index, MUNIX). In this field, Christoph Neuwirth, together with other team members, has trained over 60 neuromuscular centers worldwide in this rapid and non-invasive method, making it a reliable tool for innovative research as well as for clinical trials.

Christoph Neuwirth is a Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology and has authored numerous publications.
