Neurologist, Epidemiologist & Director Of The Center For Neurodegenerative Diseases And Aging Brain

Giancarlo Logroscino, MD PhD, is a Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Bari and Director of the Interdepartmental Neurodegenerative Diseases and Brain Aging Center of the University. He also leads the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Aging Brain at the Pia Fondazione Panico in Tricase. Trained in Neurology (University of Bari) and Epidemiology (Columbia University, NYC), he was Associate Professor at Harvard University (2002-2008).
His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases aging-related, natural history and biomarkers environmental risk factors. He has led pioneering studies on diseases like ALS, Fronto-temporal dementia, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer, establishing population-based registries in Italy (SLAP) and internationally. He is a member of global projects like EURALS and the Global Burden of Diseases initiative. He has established the first international epidemiological study on FTD (FRONTIERS)
Dr. Logroscino has published over 500 papers in top jourrnals (e.g., Lancet Neurology, BMJ), co-edits the Textbook of Neuroepidemiology (Oxford University Press), and serves as Associate Editor of Neuroepidemiology. He has held leadership roles in the American Academy of Neurology, World Federation of Neurology, and Italian Neurological Society. Since 2021, he has been Vice President of the Italian Association of Psychogeriatrics.
