Our ALS consultations began in 1988, serving patients referred to us and those seeking our care or a second opinion. We maintain a strong partnership with the ALS Association (APELA). Beyond clinical support, we have been actively involved in all aspects of ALS research, including numerous international collaborations and clinical trials.

We annually observe over 60 new patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) from across Portugal. Our current patient cohort exceeds 200 individuals. Since 1995, our records have encompassed approximately 2000 patients. We have published a large number of studies on clinical features (including genetics) and disease progression, respiratory evaluation and care, laboratory changes and biomarkers, neurophysiological features for diagnosis and measuring disease progression, fasciculation potentials and motor units recruitment, and machine leaning and other advanced statistical methods. We have participated recently in 5 clinical trials, in addition we have organized a local academic trial.
