The ALS and Neuromuscular Disorders Unit at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío has been designated as National (CSUR) and European (EURO-NMD) reference unit. Our research laboratory at the Biomedicine Institute of Sevilla is part of the Spanish network for research in neurodegenerative disorders (CIBERNED). These designations together with the fact that the prevalence of ALS in our population is one of the highest in Spain (http://www.proyectorevela.com/mapas#), position our Unit within the ALS Units with highest accredited quality in Spain, at both assistance and research level. Our research projects are focused on the phenotype and genotype description of ALS patients, metabolic alterations and biomarkers in ALS, and clinical trials.
