Ljubljana ALS Center

University Medical Center Ljubljana

The Ljubljana ALS Centre is based at the Institute of Clinical Neurophysiology of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia. Our multidisciplinary team provides clinical care to the majority of Slovenian patients with ALS.

University Medical Center Ljubljana

The centre was established in 2002 by Prof. Janez Zidar. Its core clinical team consists of five neurology consultants, a team coordinator, a social worker, two specialist nurses, a respiratory therapist and a research coordinator. A larger multidisciplinary team includes a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a dietitian and a psychologist. Around 140 patients with ALS are visiting our centre every three months and we see about 50 new patients with ALS each year. Our main research interests include neurophysiology and neuroimaging of ALS. We have a close research collaboration with Prof. Boris Rogelj (neurobiology) and Prof. Metka Ravnik Glavač (genetics). Our centre hosted the ENCALS meeting in 2017.
